Ecuadorian Aviation Board Takes Action against American Airlines.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Jun. 1--Saying American Airlines violated Ecuadorean law by lowering travel agency commissions, Ecuador's civil aviation authority this week forced the airline to cancel 12 of its 38 weekly flights between Miami, Quito and Guayaquil.
American, the dominant carrier in Latin America, reduced its Latin American and Caribbean travel agent commissions by more than one-third, from 10 percent to 6 percent, in mid-January.
The move sparked protests throughout the region.
About 200 agencies in several Caribbean countries launched a boycott of American and its commuter affiliate American Eagle. Today, about 175 agencies are continuing the full boycott, said Wayne Rodriguez, president of the Travel Agents Association of Trinidad and Tobago and president...
