Jun. 9--Astronics Corp. has firmed up orders for another $9.4 million in work to modify the cockpits of F-16 fighters to accommodate night-vision equipment, putting the Buffalo-based manufacturer well on its way toward securing what could be nearly $51 million in business.

The U.S. Air Force exercised its second option on the night vision lighting contract it awarded to Astronics two years ago, boosting the total value of all the work that has been authorized to $38.9 million, the company said.

Astronics could receive another $12 million in work if the Air Force exercises its remaining option on the contract. The F-16 contract, which is the biggest single project ever won by Astronics, is expected to add about $15 million to Astronics' annual sales as...
