AT&T Closes MediaOne Acquisition, Becomes Nation's Largest Cable TV Provider.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Jun. 16--AT&T yesterday officially closed its $44 billion acquisition of MediaOne Group, cementing the revamped Ma Bell's new role as the nation's largest cable television provider, with 16 million subscribers.
AT&T's filing of closing papers in a Delaware court also makes it instantly Massachusetts' dominant provider of cable TV and high-speed Internet access, and clears the way for it to buy cable franchises in Boston and 38 suburbs from Cablevision and heavily upgrade them for Internet access.
MediaOne's cable customers in 175 Bay State communities and its 155,000 RoadRunner high-speed Internet access customers in Massachusetts and New Hampshire can expect to see new "AT&T Cable" and "AT&T Broadband" logos on their bills and trucks within two or...
