Jun. 28--NEW YORK--Dell Computer Corp. Chairman Michael Dell said demand for personal computers continues to be strong and is slightly better than normal than in recent years during a traditionally slow quarter for the industry.

But components such as processors are difficult to obtain because chip makers were slow to boost capacity until recently, Dell said in a discussion with reporters Tuesday at the industry trade show PC Expo in New York.

"Component prices are generally moving in an upward direction," Dell said. "Some components are in shortage, and we're having to work hard to get the supply we need.
