Drug Maker Eli Lilly Opens Quarterly Financial Briefing to Media, Public.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Jul. 21--For the first time on Thursday, Eli Lilly and Co. opened up to the media and the public one of its quarterly briefings for Wall Street analysts.
The previously private teleconference, where Lilly executives answer often-pointed questions from stock analysts, was broadcast live over Lilly's Internet Web page to anyone who tuned in.
"We've been looking for ways to further expand the distribution of information about our company to the marketplace," said Lilly spokesman Jim Kappel.
By broadcasting the teleconference on the Web to the public and letting the media participate by phone, it "ensures everyone is hearing the same information at the same time," he said.
All future Lilly teleconferences to announce quarterly earnings...
