GM, FIAT FINALIZE JOINT VENTURE: General Motors Corp. and Italy's Fiat SpA said Monday they finalized a global alliance that calls for equity swaps between the two auto groups and formation of 50-50 power train and purchasing joint ventures.
GM, the world's No. 1 automaker, took a 20-percent stake in Fiat Auto Holdings, B.V., a new holding company that controls Fiat Group's auto and light commercial vehicle operations, except for Ferrari and Maserati.
Fiat, the seventh-largest auto group, received 32 million shares of GM's common stock, equal to about 5.6 percent. GM plans to offset the newly issued shares with a previously announced $1.4-billion stock buyback. The alliance was first announced in March.
