Lockheed Martin Expects to Get Order for 20 More F-16s from South Korea.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Jul. 27--FARNBOROUGH, England--Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co. executives said yesterday that they are within a week or so of signing a deal to produce 20 more F-16 fighters for South Korea.

The move would follow three previous sales of F-16s to the Korean government, which first purchased the F-16 in 1981 and now has 160 of the planes.

South Korea's assembly plant at Sachon will build the planes, so the order will not have an effect on employment at Lockheed's big Fort Worth assembly plant.

The deal does, however, increase Lockheed Martin's F-16 backlog to 240, which company officials say assures the continuance of the 25-year-old F-16 program through at least 2007.

By that time, Lockheed Martin hopes to be adapting its Fort Worth...
