Jul. 28--The head of Lucent Technologies Inc.'s optical networking business told his staff yesterday he is retiring -- a week after the nation's largest maker of telecommunications equipment told analysts that it missed a crucial product cycle that hurt its profits.
Harry Bosco, whose resignation is effective Aug. 1, had planned for months to retire when he reached his 35th anniversary with Murray Hill- based Lucent, company spokesman Bill Price said. Bosco reached that milestone last week, Price said.
There was no connection to last week's profit warning and an announcement by Chairman and Chief Executive Richard McGinn to shuffle some top managers in the next two weeks, Price said.
