Indicted Former Internet Executive Helps FBI Design Software Program.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Aug. 12--Patrick Naughton has created the "framework" for a software program that will allow the FBI to remotely access and search someone's computer, according to a document released Friday by a federal court in Los Angeles.
That product was among five software programs cited in the document filed by the government in order to justify awarding the former Internet star a reduced sentence. While the 25-page document presumably gives a detailed description of Naughton's work, a federal judge, acting on a Mercury News request to unseal the information, ordered significant portions be withheld to protect law enforcement efforts to prevent and catch sexual predators online.
