Family Blames Recalled Tires for Vacation Disasters.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Aug. 24--BILOXI, Miss.--Firestone tire failures during long trips are "vacation disasters," says the attorney for a Coast family.
Biloxi attorney Paul Minor is suing Ford and Bridgestone/Firestone on behalf of Homer and Linda Mayo of North Biloxi, whose family was involved in such a wreck while returning from a Walt Disney World in April 1999.
The wreck involved circumstances similar to hundreds of other accidents caused by failed Firestone tires:
--Older tires.
--Long-distance travel.
--Heat.
--Tread separation at the steel belt.
Minor says the tire failed because the sharp ends of the steel belt chewed up the rubber inside the tire after many miles. That kind of damage can't be seen until the tire...
