Aug. 26--What is that thing under the garage?

A man in the 300 block of North State Street called the city's animal control unit this week to report a critter lurking under his garage.

When Officer Stacy Sexton showed up, he discovered a woodchuck that could, and did, chuck dirt -- and would have chucked more if he could.

The 2-foot long rodent was apparently settling in after digging an entrance and exit on either side of the garage.

"This is something I don't get everyday," Sexton said, adding that woodchucks should be approached with caution. "They can be dangerous if cornered. I definitely wouldn't want the dog to tangle with it."
