Sep. 1--From L. Brooks Patterson's perch, Oakland County is the obvious place for the automobile industry to locate its new Internet-based automotive purchasing consortium, dubbed Covisint.
No one expects the county executive to feel otherwise. But Patterson is building an aggressive lobbying campaign to back him up, and he's willing to take on anyone who gets in his way.
He couldn't help himself this week when he disparaged Ann Arbor, another leading contender, as "not much of a town at all, really just Bad Axe, with a college."
Later on Patterson did concede that should Covisint spurn Oakland County, he'd rather it choose Ann Arbor than Silicon Valley, Boston or any other place but southeastern Michigan.
