Aug. 29--ANDOVER, Mass.--Workers striking against Raytheon Co. outlined demands for more job-security guarantees and gained backing from an influential congressman yesterday in their action against the Lexington-based defense contractor.

Raytheon said its four-year contract offer remains on the table, but no talks were scheduled as of yesterday evening.

The strike began Sunday on a vote by the union representing 2,700 Bay State manufacturing employees. It has become a showdown between Raytheon, which has posted a string of financial disappointments since last year, and labor leaders anxious to protect a shrinking work force.
