Investigators Enter Databases of Indianapolis Firm Accused of Ponzi Scheme.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Aug. 26--Investigators trying to sort out the tangled accounts at Heartland Financial Services Inc. gained access to the company's computer system Friday, after several days of trying.

"Victory arrived at about 2 p.m.," said James A. Knauer, the court-appointed receiver for Heartland Financial and JMS Financial Group.

A check of the databases showed that plenty of information remained in the system, Knauer said.

Whether by coincidence or design, all of the passwords were changed the day before the Securities and Exchange Commission obtained a court order that essentially shut the companies down, he said.
