Iowa Attorney General's Office Advises Used-Car Dealers to Remedy Tire Risk.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Aug. 30--DES MOINES, Iowa--The Iowa Attorney General's Office on Tuesday began advising several thousand licensed used-car dealers in Iowa to replace tires covered in a Bridgestone/Firestone recall from vehicles on their lots or provide written notice to potential buyers that the tires may pose a danger.

Bill Brauch, director of the Attorney General's Office's consumer protection division, said failure by dealers to replace recalled tires with non-defective ones before offering the vehicle for sale or to provide clear, written notice to each buyer that tires on a vehicle are subject to a safety recall could be regarded as an unfair sales practice in violation of Iowa's consumer fraud act.
