Sep. 4--FOOTBALL FEVER? A newly released survey by a New York marketing firm indicates that Charleston doesn't have many die-hard pro football fans.
The poll by Scarborough Sports Marketing showed that just 18 percent of people surveyed in the area consider themselves avid fans. That was one of the lower percentages of 64 cities surveyed although it tied with Los Angeles, New York and Seattle.
Not surprisingly, areas with National Football League teams including Milwaukee (where the Green Bay Packers play home games), Jacksonville and Kansas City had the highest figures. At least one-third of the population in those cities said they are "very interested" in pro football. Sacramento, which placed seventh, was the highest among non-NFL locales.
