IBM Rolls Out First Intel-based Laptop with Wireless Networking Feature.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Sep. 7--RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.--This morning at DemoMobile, a trade show in Pasadena, Calif., IBM will pull the plug on its popular laptop computer by introducing the first wireless version.
The new ThinkPad i Series computers will come with an internal antenna and a wireless network card inside to allow wireless connection to a local area network, using a common wireless standard called 802.11b.
In an office, home or hotel with a wireless network, an i Series user can go online from any room without having to plug it into a wall.
"What ThinkPad has always stood for is mobility," said Rick McGee, vice president of mobile brand marketing for IBM in RTP, "Now mobility meets wireless integration."
