Sep. 12--Raytheon Co. and a striking union were set to meet with a federal mediator today, but both sides seemed to be digging in for a battle that could last several more weeks.
About 2,700 unionized manufacturing employees of the Lexington-based defense contractor walked off their jobs Aug. 27 after rejecting a four-year contract offer.
Strikers are seeking more job guarantees, as well as better pension and health-care arrangements. They have turned out healthy crowds at picket lines at the company's big plant in Andover, as well at facilities in Quincy and Waltham. The two sides met last week but reported little progress before the mediator.
