Sep. 15--FPL GROUP PLANS TO OFFER NATURAL GAS TO BUSINESSES: A unit of FPL Group (FPL) said Thursday it hopes to begin offering natural gas service to businesses statewide on Nov. 1.
FPL Energy Services currently sells gas to 400 to 500 large commercial customers across the state as well as smaller businesses formerly served by Citigas in western Miami-Dade, Indian River and Brevard counties. The company now wants to capitalize on new regulations aimed at opening up competition in Florida's natural gas market.
The Florida Public Service Commission gave tentative approval to FPL's expansion plan Sept. 5. If no objections are filed with the agency by Sept. 27, FPL plans to begin reselling natural gas statewide on Nov. 1.
