Tiger Woods, Nike Seal 5-Year Endorsement Deal.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Sep. 15--Golf phenomenon Tiger Woods on Thursday signed a five-year contract to plug Nike's shoes, clothes and equipment -- a deal that could make him the highest-paid sports endorser in history.
Nike would not disclose the value of the deal, which has been the subject of speculation for months. Nike Golf President Bob Wood said, however, that the deal's value increases as Nike sales grow.
Published estimates have placed the value of the deal at $80 million or more. That would be at least $16 million a year. With spectacular sales, the value possibly could hit $100 million -- the upper end of estimates.
