Sep. 18--ELLISON'S HUGE COMPENSATION: CONSIDER THE OPTIONS: Let's be honest: Larry Ellison is not the easiest guy in the world to like. His pursuit of wealth, women and toys like airplanes and yachts makes him the very model of the self-absorbed and selfish entrepreneur. Not a model for kids.

But the CEO of Oracle Corp. (ORCL) is also one of the pre-eminent businessmen of his time, capable of reinventing his $220 billion company again and again. He reminds me more than a little of Giants slugger Barry Bonds: difficult man, great player.

It's worth keeping those facts in mind as you consider Ellison's new stock option package, which has turned heads even in a valley acclimated to brazen greed.
