Lockheed Wins Air Force Computer Network Consolidation Contract.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Sep. 21--Lockheed Martin Corp. made it official Wednesday: It has won a coveted $1.5 billion Air Force contract to consolidate the military's space, air and ground computer networks into a common system at Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs.
News of the contract surfaced Tuesday.
Lockheed, a defense contractor with 1,500 Springs employees, was competing against TRW Inc., which also has a large local presence, for the Integrated Space Command and Control (ISC-2) contract.
Under the contract, Lockheed and several other companies will combine the military's 40 separate systems into one network that will allow military leaders to instantly view battlefields around the world.
