Sep. 21--GIG HARBOR NATIVE HOPES TO ADD SPARKLE TO HOMETOWN: If his business develops as medical entrepreneur Lee Johnson of Gig Harbor envisions, colloidal silver could become a mother lode for Johnson and his hometown.
The 48-year-old retired pharmacy owner has received a use patent for colloidal silver as an antibacterial disinfectant for kidney dialysis equipment.
It took the U.S. Patent Office only nine months to approve his patent for cleaning tubing and other equipment for dialysis reuse with a solution of silver permanently suspended in distilled water. Medicare reimbursement rates make it necessary to recycle dialysis instruments to keep treatment costs within federal guidelines.
