Sep. 29--WASHINGTON--A federal grand jury in Texas returned a 97-count indictment Thursday against Koch Industries, its petroleum subsidiary and four employees, charging that they violated federal environmental laws at a Corpus Christi refinery and made false statements to regulators.

Justice Department officials described the investigation against the company, based in Wichita, Kan., as one of the largest criminal cases ever brought charging violation of the federal Clean Air Act.
