BAE Systems Welcomes Former Lockheed Unit in Fort Wayne, Ind.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Sep. 26-- The engine controls workers on Taylor Street were treated to a presentation Monday on the strength of their new employer, BAE Systems North America, and told not to expect any reductions in force.

The business had through Friday been part of Lockheed Martin Control Systems, which was sold for $510 million in cash to BAE Systems, a British-based defense and aerospace contractor. BAE Systems owns BAE Systems North America.

Lockheed Martin Control Systems employed about 600 local workers largely in manufacturing, and about 1,250 in Johnson City, N.Y., where it had its headquarters as well as engineering and production facilities.
