Oct. 12--Despite his decision to sell the team, Red Sox chief John Harrington said yesterday that he is determined to anchor the team to a new ballpark in the Fenway before he names a new owner.

Harrington said he will continue to seek financing for a new ballpark in an attempt to bind future owners to assume what could amount to more than $250 million in debt to build a ballpark next door to 88-year-old Fenway Park.

"Until the day I hand over the team to a new owner, I am in the legal position to decide what is in the best interest of the team and to take on debt," Harrington said in an interview with The Boston Globe. "I believe the Red Sox and their fans are best served by anchoring the team here in the Fenway, where we can preserve our heritage....
