Oct. 25--NEW YORK--The great Internet portal war is officially over and a winner has been declared.
Yahoo Inc. of Santa Clara has pulled so far ahead of its rivals in this market that many of them have, in effect, raised the flag of surrender. In the last month, the second-tier portals like Snap.com, AltaVista Co and Go.com have changed their business strategies and relaunched their Web sites.
And at the Internet World conference this week in New York, Yahoo's two largest competitors -- America Online and Microsoft Network -- will launch updates of their services.
