Oct. 28--The attack on Microsoft Corp.'s computer systems, in which an unknown hacker gained access to the software giant's closely guarded source code, signals that companies are not paying enough attention to computer security at a time when attacks are becoming increasingly common and more sophisticated, security experts say.
Microsoft officials emphasized the intruder only gained access to computer code associated with future products and did not compromise the security of products already on the market, such as Windows Me, Windows 2000 or the Office suite of business software. But the vulnerability of the world's largest software company underscored the threat faced by businesses everywhere.
