Oct. 31--HIAWATHA, Iowa--When the Gores Technology Group bought the money-losing Mattel Interactive on Sept. 29, the company signaled that it would move swiftly to stem the financial hemorrhaging.
Gores made good on its word Wednesday, and the ax fell hardest in Eastern Iowa.
Of the 290 employees the company plans to eliminate in a restructuring plan rolled out this week, The Gazette has learned that 195 are in Hiawatha.
Laid-off employees carried belongings to their cars at the company's Hiawatha offices Wednesday as company officials continued to meet individually with employees to explain Gores' restructuring plans.
