CEO Says Insurer UnumProvident Is Rebounding.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Nov. 14--UnumProvident Corp. chief J. Harold Chandler said Monday his insurance company has turned the corner and is starting to produce the results envisioned a year ago when Chattanooga-based Provident Companies and Unum Corp. of Portland, Maine, merged.
The global leader in disability insurance, now with headquarters both in Chattanooga and Portland, released third-quarter earnings Monday that matched analysts estimates. The firm's stock price also has emerged from the doldrums and nearly tripled in price over the past six months.
"I think the stock has shown an increased confidence in our business plan and in our execution of that plan," said Chandler, UnumProvident's chairman, president and chief executive officer.
