Nov. 20--Sometimes a chip is more than just a chip. This is one of those times for Intel Corp.

Intel launches its long-awaited Pentium 4 microprocessor today as it faces unprecedented challenges to its reign as undisputed king of the computer-chip industry.

Industry analysts believe the Pentium 4 -- designed for swift, seamless processing of video and audio data off the Internet -- could help Intel regain at least some of the luster it's lost in recent months. Still, analysts believe the heightened competition has prompted Intel to charge less money for the Pentium 4 than it otherwise would.
