Nov. 26-- HONG KONG--HONG KONG A WORLD APART ON TELECOM: The mobile phone I bought here from the United States had, ahem, a technical problem the day after I arrived.

Lucky for me, I'd landed in a city that boasts advanced telecommunications services and zealous competition to provide them. Hong Kong's powers-that-be have some of the planet's most ambitious Information Age goals, and they seem to be making this frenetic place a test bed for the future of telecommunications.
