Defense Contractor Northrop Grumman Opens Operation in Fort Wayne, Ind.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Nov. 28--FORT WAYNE, Ind.--One of the nation's largest defense contractors has set up operations here to be close to the area's defense electronics talent pool.
Northrop Grumman Corp. has half a dozen workers at 6112 Constitution Drive. It plans to expand its local work force to about 20 within a year and substantially more than that in the coming years.
This summer, the company was recruiting specialized systems and software engineers and other technical specialists from the area. It found some professionals who had the skills but didn't want to relocate.
"If people don't move, maybe you put your facility where the people are," said spokesman Jim Reinhard.
