Dec. 3--In the last few weeks, local voters and government officials have taken several important steps toward beefing up Silicon Valley's infrastructure and preserving our quality of life.
Good thing, too. Even though this area has horrible traffic and skyrocketing real estate prices, it continues to attract many of the world's best scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs. Despite the dot-coms' collapse, the local economy will continue to grow, and we need to make substantial investments -- and good decisions -- to maintain our economic health and preserve this area as a good place to live.
Looking back, it's remarkable to see how far we've come in the last few months.
