New Jersey-Based Cable TV Provider RCN Stalls Plans for Palo Alto, Calif.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Dec. 4--Palo Alto residents looking for another cable TV option besides AT&T will have to wait a little longer. RCN Corp. of New Jersey, which was pursuing city approval to set up shop, is not quite ready for Palo Alto.
The company, which hasn't been able to secure a permit from Mountain View, where it plans to build its network hub, has put on hold plans to pursue a franchise agreement to offer cable service in Palo Alto, said company spokeswoman Nancy Bavec. She said tight capital markets are making the company cautious about how it invests.
"I just know it's not around the corner," Bavec said when asked when RCN would be able to offer a bundle of telephone, cable TV and high-speed Internet service in Palo Alto.
