Dec. 7--For much of the past decade, John G. Rice has been following in Robert Nardelli's footsteps, taking some of the same jobs that recently landed Nardelli in contention for the top job at General Electric.
So when Nardelli jumped ship Tuesday to take the chief executive's job at Home Depot, it only took GE one day to name his replacement as head of GE Power Systems: Rice.
Rice, 44, already had moved to the Atlanta area in July as chief operating officer of the division, said Jeff Ignaszak, GE Power Systems spokesman, when it became clear that Nardelli was being considered to replace GE's longtime chairman, Jack Welch.
Ignaszak said Rice's move to Atlanta allowed him to monitor GE Power Systems' electronic commerce development efforts...
