United HealthCare of Illinois Fails to Reach Deal with Hospital Network.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Dec. 8--Nearly 900,000 Illinois residents will have to pay more for their health care if they want continued treatment at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago and four of its affiliate hospitals because their insurer and the health-care system cannot come to terms on a new contract.

Rush-Presbyterian said Thursday that it has been unable to reach a new contract with United HealthCare of Illinois Inc., citing disagreements over the

managed-care insurer's payment of physicians and health facilities.

The current contract ends Dec. 18.
