Dec. 12--Work means creativity on demand and nonstop projects at Young & Rubicam, a full-service advertising agency in Irvine. That pace makes time off a precious commodity.

So officials responded quickly to the idea of a company shutdown between Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Since the firm's main client, Lincoln Mercury, always closes during the holidays, Young & Rubicam adopted the tradition, too.

This year employees will receive a full week of paid days off.
