Mediator Sides with Aberdeen, S.D., School Board on Issue of Teacher Salaries.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Dec. 13--A state labor mediator has sided with the Aberdeen school board on its salary stalemate with teachers for the current school year. Overall, however, mediator Randy Bingner of the South Dakota Department of Labor agreed with the Aberdeen Education Association on most disputed issues. AEA represents the district's 275 certified staff members, which includes teachers, counselors, librarians and nurses.
School board president Dave Bunsness said Monday the board intends to take the final step of the negotiations process -- imposing contracts -- when it meets Jan. 8. The board has the option of following or rejecting any or all of Bingner's recommendations.
