Dec. 12--With handmade soaps named Tranquil Sleep and Rose Petals, and bath salts called Angels Influence and Astral Journey, it's easy to understand why a new shop on Union Avenue says it's "simply a reflection of inner peace, love and kindness."

The new shop, Silk, is the brainchild of Mary T. Dugan, a longtime employee in the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission office of the state Department of Transportation.

She left the office 1 1/2 years ago to start her own firm, MTD Consulting, specializing in civil rights, labor and wage cases.

Silk is an outgrowth of that company, which she still operates, and of her continuing concern for the general well-being of people.
