Dec. 21--Some may prefer the breathtaking thrills of a roller coaster, but Irvine Co. executives opted for the gentler rides of a Ferris wheel and carousel.
Intended as the main attractions in an expansion of the popular Irvine Spectrum Center, the Ferris wheel and the carousel will be joined by small stores and carts in the new Phase Three area.
What stores will be in the 200,000-square-foot addition will be determined between now and the scheduled opening around Thanksgiving 2001.
"Phase One and Two focus on entertainment and food, so Phase Three will be predominantly retail stores," said Dick Sim, the newly promoted chairman of the Investment Properties Group at the Irvine Co.
