Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News, January, 2001
Dec. 30--ANAHEIM, Calif.--Disneyland must make substantial safety improvements to the ride on which a 4-year-old boy was seriously injured before the ride can be reopened, a state safety agency ruled Friday.
The report from the state's year-old Permanent Amusement Ride Section of the Division of Occupational Safety focused on the Roger Rabbit Car Toon Spin ride, where Brandon Zucker was seriously injured Sept. 22.
The 45-pound child fell from the attraction just minutes into the ride that fall evening and was run over and trapped by a second car carrying his father and grandmother. Brandon sustained serious internal injuries and brain damage and has not walked or talked since. He is being treated at a rehabilitation hospital in Orange.
