Customer Complaints Are Down Since Qwest Bought US West Last Year.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Jan. 3--In the six months since Qwest took over U S West's telephone business, customer service seems to be improving.

The number of complaints registered with the Washington Utility and Transportation Commission has declined. Analysts are happy with the company's financial performance and customer goals.

The telecommunications company has spent $265 million since July on new equipment and additional workers as part of a plan to improve customer service.

"We have hired more technicians on the job -- people with trucks and tools and test sets," said Afshin Mohebbi, president of worldwide operations for Qwest. "We've put in a number of processes. And we've focused on bringing in resources."
