Former Neiman Marcus Chief Heads to Classical Women's Knitwear Company.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Jan. 6--H.W. "Hugh" Mullins is taking a new job at St. John Knits International Inc., just five weeks after his surprise resignation as chairman and chief executive officer of Neiman Marcus Stores.
Later this month, Mr. Mullins becomes chief executive officer of St. John Knits, which makes classical styled women's knitwear that's sold at upscale stores, including Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue.
Mr. Mullins, 49, has had a longtime relationship with the founding Gray family that took St. John Knits private in 1999 along with Vestar Capital Partners, a New York-based investment firm.
He succeeds Bob Gray, who will continue as chairman of the company. St. John Knits is based in Irvine, Calif., and had sales last year of about $300 million....
