Snow in Northeast Delays Flights out of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Airport for Days.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Jan. 4--After days of weather-related flight delays, Spirit Airlines was close to returning its system to normal Wednesday, including its flights between Myrtle Beach and New York City.

A New Year's Eve snowstorm that closed La Guardia Airport in New York and Newark International Airport in New Jersey crippled flight schedules for Spirit, Delta Air Lines and other carriers that use those airports.

Spirit also had delays on flights to Detroit.

By Wednesday afternoon, Spirit's flight delays were down to about an hour, said John Chakides, Spirit's station manager at Myrtle Beach International Airport.

"Today was the first day things kind of got back to normal," Chakides said.
