Jan. 7--Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos crashed the retail party by creating the world's biggest Internet store. And like an unwanted guest, he just won't leave.

The giant companies that sell books, hardware, and music to American consumers would like nothing better than to blast the cherubic CEO from the Internet marketplace. It was Bezos, after all, who forced them to shell out millions to develop competing Web sites, many of which have been criticized as clunky imitators. Merely mentioning his name was enough to prompt bouts of crankiness from one prominent book-selling executive.

It's hard to say that Amazon.com has gotten the last laugh, given that its shares, like those of many dot-com companies, are in the dumper. Analysts are predicting Amazon...
