Unocal to Move Jobs to Sugar Land, Texas.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Jan. 12--Unocal Corp. will shift about 250 jobs from its office in Lafayette, La., to its offices in Sugar Land over the next 10 to 12 months, the company said Tuesday.
This company said the consolidation will allow it to increase its focus on the Gulf of Mexico region. It also will help by lowering costs for travel and office space, the company said.
"Making this move will increase our exposure to new business opportunities and access to employment markets for geoscience and engineering professionals," Ken Butler, vice president of Unocal Gulf Region, said in a written statement.
Unocal, which is based in Los Angeles, has about 700 employees at its Sugar Land facility already. This move will increase that number to 950.
