Montana Renewable Energy Group Makes Its Official Debut.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Jan. 10--Although planning started months before regional threats of power shortages and skyrocketing wholesale prices for electricity, the Montana Renewable Energy Association's official debut comes at an auspicious time.
" People are going to be paying a lot more attention to renewable energy, given the environment we're in right now," said Jim Tracy of the National Center for Appropriate Technology. " At some point the rising costs of energy and the falling costs for these systems are going to meet and renewables will be economical."
The nonprofit group's first formal meeting is this after noon in Helena.
