Microsoft Introduces New `Xbox' Video Game Console.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Jan. 17--When Bill Gates unveiled Microsoft's new Xbox video game console, the first animated glimpse the world had of the new system featured Munch - an amphibian protagonist designed in San Luis Obispo.
"Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee," the latest game to be developed by Oddworld Inhabitants, was one of two titles - and the only one from the United States - selected to flaunt Xbox's graphic capabilities during Gates' keynote address at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week. The other was "Malice: A Dark and Comic Fiery Tale," created by Argonaut Games PLC of London.
By introducing the Xbox, Microsoft is plunging into the $10 billion video games business. The aim: to grab market share from the three big players - Sony, Nintendo and Sega....
