eBay Profits Exceed Expectations.(Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News)

Jan. 19--SAN JOSE, Calif.--Online auction company eBay Inc., one of the few bright spots in the Internet universe right now, reported fourth quarter results that handily beat expectations Thursday, and lifted its revenue projection for 2001.
eBay's rosy prediction came as welcome news to Wall Street, which has had to digest a string of bad news from all types of Internet companies -- ranging from e-tailers like eToys Inc. to Web content companies like Yahoo Inc. As the economy has slowed and dot-coms have fallen out of favor with the stock market in recent months, eBay has been one of the few major Internet companies to come out relatively unscathed.
